TKI-project HDDW for drinking water extraction near Bergambacht

Oasen, Visser & Smit Hanab and KWR Watercycle Research Institute have started a collaboration within the framework of the Topconsortium for Knowledge and Innovation (TKI). Together they will make a feasibility study of the application of HDDW at the pumping station Rodenhuis near Bergambacht.

Oasen, Visser & Smit Hanab and KWR Watercycle Research Institute have started a collaboration within the framework of the Topconsortium for Knowledge and Innovation (TKI) to make a feasibility study of the application of HDDW at the pumping station Rodenhuis near Bergambacht. The current vertical wells need to be replaced and the transport pipe is suffering from subsidence of the weak peat in the vicinity. Oasen wants to know if HDDW is a feasible option for the replacement of the vertical wells. Also the possibility to perform a horizontal directional drilling that places the transport pipe deeper on a stable sand layer is examined. For this feasibility study, a groundwater model study and a route study will be performed. Also, a cost estimate will be made for several alternatives. After the studies, the alternatives will be evaluated and compared. When the results of the study are positive, Oasen will construct one or more HDDW’s.

The TKI-accommodation is meant for companies and scientist to work together to launch innovative products or services. Companies invest in the collaboration and TKI gives an addition to the investment of 25%. This project is part of the Topsector Water, focusing on the protection of the Dutch coast, but also on water saving systems and technologies for water reuse. HDDW can deliver an important contribution to a sustainable water supply in the future.
